Pro Bono & Legal Aid

Representation for indigent litigants, support through legal aid authorities, community legal literacy work, and assistance to non-profits and NGOs.

Overview

Alongside its fee-paying practice, the firm undertakes pro bono and legal aid work consistent with the profession’s public responsibilities. This includes direct representation of indigent litigants, engagement with statutory legal aid authorities, community legal-literacy initiatives, and support to non-profit organisations on their legal and compliance needs.

What this covers

01

Indigent Litigant Representation

Free or subsidised representation for individuals unable to afford legal fees, in matters ranging from criminal defence to civil and family disputes, taken up on a case-by-case basis.

For example: Representing an indigent client, on a pro bono basis, in a wrongful-termination dispute against a former employer.
02

Legal Aid Authority Support (NALSA / SLSA / DLSA)

Engagement with the National, State and District Legal Services Authorities, including empanelment for legal aid panels and participation in Lok Adalats and legal aid camps.

For example: Appearing as an empanelled legal aid counsel at a Lok Adalat convened by the District Legal Services Authority.
03

Community Legal Awareness & Literacy

Participation in legal literacy camps and awareness sessions aimed at helping communities understand their basic legal rights and the remedies available to them.

For example: Conducting a legal-literacy session for a community group on tenants’ rights and the process for filing a rent dispute.
04

Non-Profit & NGO Support

Advisory to non-profit organisations and NGOs on registration, governance, FCRA compliance and other legal and regulatory requirements specific to the non-profit sector.

For example: Advising a newly formed NGO on the registration structure and compliance steps needed before it can accept foreign contributions.
